SUMMARY:Loaded Gear Tooth Contact Analysis Theory
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\n\n\n\nFormat: Live Online Virtual Training \n\n\n\nDate: July 15\, 2027 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, July 15 – 12:00-4:00pm ET \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced Level\n\n\n\nLoaded Tooth Contact Analysis involves application of dedicated FEA to gear teeth and components. This course evaluates loaded gear teeth for contact and development of tooth modifications\, (Microgeometry). It uses commercially available software examples to calculate and apply realistic load distribution factors\, Km\, in gear rating calculations and reduce transmission error. Precise calculated modifications to the helix\, (crown and taper)\, correct for loaded gear drive component deflections to improve mesh face contact and calculate a realistic Km rating load distribution factor. Precise calculated tip relief to the profile reduces transmission error from loaded tooth deflections and avoids tooth tip to root interference. Two real life gearing examples will be reviewed in the course\, one will have a cantilever mounted pinion\, the other is a shaft pinion straddled non-symmetrically by bearings. Both examples demonstrate component and tooth deflections under load which significantly reduce tooth mesh contact and increase transmission error which is then corrected with developed helix and profile modifications. Information is provided to create an Excel Spreadsheet which displays values for precise microgeometry for circular modifications in a table form to satisfy the ISO 1328 accuracy standard. Other gear performance optimization tools will also be presented\, Material and Heat Treatment Selection\, Profile Shift\, Isotropic Finishing\, Shot Peening\, Accuracy. These design tools along with LTCA are commonly applied by gear designers to optimize design reliability and calculated rating safety factors. \n\n\n\nThis course is online. A webcam on your computer equipped with a microphone and speakers/headset are required for participation. Space is limited to 20-25 participants per course. He specialized in making dynamic measurements and is especially known for his work in mitigating gear noise. He continues to do drivetrain problem solving through his company\, White Noise\, LLC. Bob is a member of the MPMA Sound & Vibration committee.  Contact him at RobertWhite@WhiteNoiseUSA.com. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrian Wilson\n\n\n\nBrian K. Wilson\, has 34 years of experience in the design\, test and analysis of rotating machinery. His current position is Chief Engineer for McLaren Engineering\, a subsidiary of Linamar\, managing the Core Engineering department\, including NVH CAE/testing of gearbox systems.  Additional relevant experience includes Romax Technology\, Inc. where he served as Chief Technology Officer; Ford Motor Company where he held the position of NVH Technical Specialist; and Founder of Advanced Drivetrain Engineering and Technology (ADET)\, a consulting/software company with a focus on gear technology.  Wilson’s key area of expertise is in rotating machinery dynamics\, with an emphasis on gear noise\, helping major OEMs worldwide to solve an assortment of drivetrain dynamics problems over the years.  He currently serves on the AGMA Sound & Vibration Committee and on ASME’s Power and Transmission Gearing Committee.  Wilson holds a BSME from Michigan State University. Contact him at brian.wilson@adetgear.com. \n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto Release\n\n\n\nFrom time to time MPMA uses photographs\, survey answers and testimonial of MPMA events in its promotional materials.
