SUMMARY:Involute Spline Design and Rating
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\n\n\n\nFormat: Live Online Virtual Training \n\n\n\nDate: July 14-15\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, July 14 – 10:00-2:00pm CT \n\n\n\nWednesday\, July 15 – 10:00-2:00pm CT \n\n\n\n\nInvolute Spline Design & Rating\n\n\n\nThis course will address both geometry and rating of involute splines of various types. The types of spline joints and their applications will be discussed. Spline configuration variations\, including half depth\, full depth\, and special function designs\, will be addressed. Both fixed and flexible spline configurations will be examined in terms of usage and design. Lubrication methods\, including grease\, oil bath\, and flowing oil\, as well as coatings appropriate for various spline applications\, are examined. Shear and compressive stress rating methods are discussed with analyses methodology presented in both equation and graphical methodology via various rating charts. \n\n\n\nThis course is online. A webcam on your computer equipped with a microphone and speakers/headset are required for participation. Space is limited to 20-25 participants per course. Course materials will be mailed in hard copy. Please make sure to indicate your preferred mailing address in the registration process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\nCourse outline (PDF)\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Rates\n\n\n\nEarly Bird Registrant – $600(Deadline until 4/30/26) \n\n\n\nRegular Registrant – $650(Deadline: 5/1/26 – 6/16/26) \n\n\n\nLate Registrant – $675(Deadline: 6/17/26 – 6/30/26) \n\n\n\nNON-MEMBER RATE\n\n\n\nEarly Bird Registrant – $700(Deadline until 4/30/26) \n\n\n\nRegular Registrant – $750(Deadline: 5/1/26 – 6/16/26) \n\n\n\nLate Registrant – $775(Deadline: 6/17/26 – 6/30/26) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou will earn 7 clock hours upon completion of the course and they will be listed on your certificate of completion.\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\n\nExplain involute splines and the various types.\n\n\n\nCompare and contrast spline configuration variations.\n\n\n\nApply various lubrication methods to splines and spline applications.\n\n\n\nApply rating methods and analyze methodology.\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend\n\n\n\nGearbox design engineers who utilize splines to transmit power between various elements within the gear system and to connect the gearbox to both input and output devices. \n\n\n\nInstructors\n\n\n\nRaymond J. Drago\, P.E.\n\nRaymond J. Drago is Chief Engineer of Drive Systems Technology\, Inc. (DST)\, a mechanical power transmission consulting organization that he founded in 1976. Mr. Drago also worked for the Boeing Company – Helicopters Division until his retirement after 37 years of service. Currently Mr. Drago is involved in the analysis\, design\, manufacture\, assembly\, and testing of many gear systems. In his role with DST\, Mr. Drago is active in all areas of mechanical power transmission\, including the design and analysis of drive systems in a very diverse field of application from heart pumps to very large mining & mill gears. He has used his 58 years of gear technology experience to prepare and deliver more than 150 Technical Papers and 385 courses dealing with various aspects of gear design and analysis. \n\nI started working at Boeing in 1967 and continued until my retirement in 2004. I started Drive Systems Technology in 1976 as a part time activity while still working at Boeing (with Boeing’s knowledge and approval\, under strict guidelines) which eventually grew to the point where I retired early from Boeing in order to pursue DST as a full-time activity. \n\n\n\nPhoto Release\n\n\n\nFrom time to time MPMA uses photographs\, survey answers and testimonial of MPMA events in its promotional materials. Unless this permission is revoked in writing to the MPMA\, by virtue of your attendance all attendees agree to the use of their likeness in such materials. \n\n\n\nCancellation and Payment Policy\n\n\n\nPlease view our cancellation policy. \n\n\n\nPlease view our late registration policy. \n\n\n\nPlease view our code of conduct.
