About MPMA

Two Legendary Associations. One Powerful Alliance.

A Legacy of Excellence that Continues to Set the Standard

The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) was formed in 2025 through the merger of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) and the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA).

For decades, ABMA and AGMA were aligned in both mission and membership, frequently collaborating on industry initiatives, trends, and applications within the mechanical power transmission industry. Over time, it became clear that uniting their strengths into one Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance would create greater efficiency, stronger advocacy, and expanded value for their community.

MPMA empowers our members to lead the industry forward. By providing standards, resources, and opportunities for collaboration we help gear, bearing, and power transmission organizations shape the future of motion technology.

About AGMA

In 1916, nine companies agreed to form the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) to advance and improve the gear industry by standardization of gear design, manufacture and application. More than 100 years later, in 2025, the association brought more than 400 members, leading gear education, and emerging technology efforts to join MPMA.

About ABMA

ABMA began in 1917 as an informal committee to aid production of bearings during World War I. In 1933, articles of association were established for Anti-Friction Bearing Manufacturers Association (AFBMA). In recent years, ABMA has been the global advocate for the industry managing standards development, education, and support of anti-counterfeiting efforts.

Where Industry Knowledge, Collaboration, and Standards Come Together

MPMA brings the mechanical power transmission community together through events, education, and technical standards that strengthen companies, professionals, and the industry as a whole. By creating opportunities to connect, learn, and lead, we help members stay competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. Our work supports innovation, encourages collaboration across disciplines, and ensures that best practices continue to advance the future of power transmission manufacturing.
