Setting the Standard for Power Transmission Manufacturing

The Motion + Power Manufacturers Alliance (MPMA) runs standards development for power transmission manufacturing. ABMA and AGMA have set national bearing and gearing standards since the early 1900’s, and MPMA continues that work.

MPMA serves as the focal point within the United States for the development of ISO bearing and gearing standards. MPMA serves the international gearing community as the Secretariat of ISO TC 60 – Gears, helping to manage international gearing standardization in that role. MPMA also participates on ISO TC 4 – Rolling bearings to help bring the US position on the global bearings standards platform.

Standards development spans critical areas including:

  • Gear and bearing design and analysis
  • Materials, metallurgy, and heat treatment
  • Manufacturing processes and quality control
  • Performance, lubrication, and efficiency
  • Inspection, testing, and failure analysis

Through this collaborative framework, MPMA maintains a trusted foundation for technical excellence across the power transmission industry.

Participate in the Standards Development Process

MPMA standards evolve through active industry participation. Members contribute technical expertise, monitor standards development, and help guide the requirements that shape mechanical power transmission manufacturing.

Participation offers valuable insight into emerging technologies and provides companies with a direct voice in the standards that guide the market.
