About the Peer Review Process

All technical papers presented at the Fall Technical Meeting undergo a structured peer review process to ensure quality and relevance. 

This process is coordinated by MPMA staff and members of the Technical Division Executive Committee (TDEC), who assign multiple reviewers to evaluate each paper. 

What Is a Peer Reviewer

A peer reviewer is a volunteer with expertise in gear, bearing, or mechanical power transmission manufacturing or research. 

Reviewers may be: 

• Active professionals in the field  
• Retired industry experts  
• Specialists with technical knowledge in relevant subject areas 

Reviewer Responsibilities

Peer reviewers evaluate assigned paper(s) and provide constructive, technical feedback to authors. Responsibilities include: 

• Reviewing technical accuracy and content quality  
• Providing feedback and suggestions for improvement  
• Ensuring clarity, relevance, and completeness  

Reviews are completed through MPMA’s online system. Reviewers may also provide detailed markups using: 

• Microsoft Word Track Changes  
• Annotated PDF uploads 

What to Expect

The peer review process is structured and supported to ensure a smooth experience: 

• Review Coordinators match reviewers to papers based on subject matter expertise  
• Selected reviewers are notified and confirmed prior to the review period  
• Review instructions and system access are provided before reviews begin  
• All reviews are completed through MPMA’s online platform  

Each reviewer will be assigned one or more papers and asked to submit feedback within the review window.
