  • Practical Challenges in Predicting Gear Reliability Utilizing Big Data and Digital Twins

Gear rating methods such as ISO 6336 output calculations for gear life, implying that it can predict gear reliability, or how many gears will fail in any set of loading conditions. The real situation is not so simple. This webinar investigates the reasons why, and makes recommendations on what can be done, both now and in the future. It goes on to discuss an initiative by Hexagon where cloud-based Digital Twins are being used to harvest data from in-service vehicles to obtain duty cycles on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis. It will be shown how the abundance of data can be used to derive greater accuracy in gear life calculations, whilst still being based on ISO 6336. Articles related to this webinar: Delivering on the Promises of Digital Twins and Big Data | Gear Technology Magazine FTM 2023 paper: Use of Gear Reliability Data in a Cloud-Based Gearbox Digital Twin Using Telematics Data | Power Transmission Engineering Magazine Barry James Senior Technical Leader for Design and Engineering Barry James has worked in gearbox engineering for over 30 years. He first joined Romax Technology in 1995 and has had many roles, delivering training, support, consultancy, research, bespoke design services and patent writing. He has been involved in many of Romax's innovations during that time, including housing stiffness, NVH, e-NVH, efficiency and thermal calculations. In 2020, Romax was acquired by Hexagon, which has allowed Barry's technical knowledge to be applied to the broader subjects of gear metrology and acquisition of in-service data from vehicle fleets, hence the current work on Digital Twins.  Please fill out the form below to access the webinar. • How Clean Steels Support Emerging Automotive Gear & Bearing Technologies

Nonmetallic inclusions are particles inherent to the steelmaking process that are known to reduce the fatigue life on parts exposed to continuous stresses. Steel producers are challenged to minimize inclusions and ultimately reduce detrimental effects on the final product. The need for high-strength steel parts with lightweight design and increased fatigue life and better performance is more important than ever. Bearing steels used in safety-critical parts – including wheel hubs, constant-velocity joints (CVJs), transmission and differential gears, pinions, and others – are clear examples. Join Gerdau and AGMA/ABMA for this webinar, where we will better understand what clean steels are and how emerging technologies within the automotive industry are calling for the support of clean steels in bearing and gear applications. Gerdau will also be introducing their new clean steels brand during this event. Denise Correa de Oliveira Research & Development Manager, Gerdau Special Steel Denise is the Research & Development Manager for Gerdau Special Steel North America. Denise’s main challenges include developing new grades for the automotive market, optimizing internal processes to make Gerdau steel even better, and leading the development of clean steel technology. Denise graduated as a Materials Engineer and has a Master’s degree and a PhD degree in Metallurgical Engineering and an MBA. Denise is also a member of the Metallurgy & Materials and Electric Vehicle Technology committees at the AGMA. Please fill out the form below to access the webinar. [wpforms id="6853"]

  • AGMA Gear Market Report Annual Webinar

To access this webinar, please contact Mary Ellen Doran, Director, Emerging Technology at [email protected]. Download Gear MArket Report Interest rates, a tight labor market, and continued war in Europe are just a few of the pressures facing manufacturers right now. What implications are there for sales and shipments in our industry? Will there be more supply chain pressures and bottlenecks? What is the latest on oil & gas and the metals industries? And what do gear manufacturers need to know now to plan for the next several months? These are the topics we will be discussing during this webinar. There will be a special focus on the automotive industry during this presentation. S&P analysts will present their latest forecasts for the U.S. and global economy and the impact on gear and bearing manufacturers: Key topics that will be presented: The impacts of a tight labor market Supply chain trends: Future of sourcing and commodity price outlook Macroeconomic Outlook –Impacts of banking crisis and interest rates Gear Market Outlook – Filling Orders: Prospects for New Demand SPECIAL REPORT: Automotive This Gear Market Report will be the last one as AGMA pivots to continue to provide Market Intelligence products that work for our changing times. • Key Trade Issues for Decision 2024

This webinar is hosted by K&L Gates a firm that specializes in legal and commercial insight. As the 2024 election cycle kicks into high gear, we examine the positions of the candidates on trade, tariffs, and investments in U.S. manufacturing and what the election is likely to mean for trade policy in 2025 and beyond. • Possible U.S. Carbon Tariffs & Subsidies for EV Production – Prospects for Bearing and Gear Companies

This webinar is hosted by DLA Piper, a firm that specializes in legal and commercial insight. Last year, the European Union implemented a program of new tariffs on imports designed to impose costs related to the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that the EU determines are emitted during the production of those imports.  The United States is moving closer to a similar system, with increasingly detailed proposals being introduced in Congress with support from both sides of the aisle.  At the same time, Congress and the Biden Administration have rolled out a range of subsidies and other programs to promote the U.S. electric vehicle industry.   In this webinar we will examine those programs, their impact on bearing and gear companies, and what the future holds for further legislation and regulation in this area. Please fill out the form below for webinar access.

  • State of the U.S. Steel Industry

This webinar is hosted by DLA Piper, a firm that specializes in legal and commercial insight. The recent proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel by Japan’s Nippon Steel Corporation has been viewed by many as a landmark development in an industry that has a long history of trade disputes and debate over its role in U.S. national security and the U.S. industrial base.  In this webinar, we will look at the current state of the U.S. steel industry from a trade and national security law lens, examining the impact of recent tariff policies, antidumping and countervailing duties, and national security laws such as the Defense Production Act on U.S. steel producers and their customers in the bearing and gear industries.  We will also provide an overview of current trends in the global industry and prospects for change in 2024 and beyond.
